The diaphragm for this fuel pump is composed of medium-weight, square-woven cotton duck – or nylon plies. It will work efficiently in an oil environment because of its oil-resistant qualities. In diaphragm pumps, a composite membrane bends up and down over a fuel bowl. The bowl contains an input and an output, each with a check valve to ensure that the fluid only moves in one direction.
