Sierra’s 18-3608 Thermostat Kit is planned for use with Yamaha outboard motors. (1) 18-0844 Thermostat Gasket Cover and (1) 18-3540 Thermostat are comprised in the kit. It can be used in place of Mallory 9-43177. Each Sierra product meets or exceeds the specifications of the original equipment part it replaces. A thermostat is a valve in the cooling system of an outboard that opens or closes based on temperature. When the thermostat is closed, it prevents cooling water from flowing through the outboard, raising the operating temperature of the motor.
